<image:caption>615 Bolyan is a prototype mixed-use building in Raleigh that incorporates sustainable design and energy efficiency with the principles of live, work, play. 615 Boylan provides loft style living with 15 condominiums and a double height street level retail space. The design takes advantage of existing grading conditions and locates retail commercial space close to the street, which will be occupied by an art gallery tenant. The second floor will have office commercial space including an art studio with an employee courtyard separating the two along with third floor commercial space available. Boylan includes 3 green roofs, which are located over the art gallery and over the art studio. Residents will have access to the art studio green roof. <image:title>Projects - North Raleigh Kitchen</image:title>
<image:caption>This North Raleigh kitchen renovation was a full redesign of an existing kitchen space. The kitchen needed a more functional layout. It wanted a new look that would capture the lifestyle of the family and provide a more efficient space for cooking, entertaining and as the heart of the house, serve as a space that could be used throughout the day. The exterior shell remained unchanged, however, new windows and full lite glass doors were inserted. The full kitchen space was demolitioned, which allowed for a new kitchen layout to be explored. Cabinets flank the north and south walls. New full height storage cabinets with built-in oven and microwave were placed on the south wall and an appliance nook bookends the north wall. The existing range is relocated on the north wall surrounded by new casement windows and ceramic tile to allow for more uniform natural reflective light to enter the space. A large casement window opens as a pass thru for the existing deck on the south. A new island became the feature of this space, with a stainless-steel farm sink inserted, this new island is placed along the east/west axis to allow for open efficient movement through the space. The island is designed to accommodate meals and entertaining. It will comfortably seat seven people with additional space to meet the needs of upwards of ten seated. A coffered ceiling connects both the ceiling to the details of the grid tile pattern throughout the space and centralizes the island as a focal point. This space is a design that accommodates friends and family. It brightens the space and allows the kitchen to feel more open and engulfed in natural light. <image:title>Projects - New Front Entry Porch</image:title>
<image:caption>The Wilson-Scarlett Residence addition consisted of a way to cover the existing front entry stoop and connect the second floor addition. With the design of an existing second floor addition started, the design of the new front porch component, become the design element to tie the master bedroom addition to the existing garage. With a simple series of roof covering the additions could all become connected. Brick pier bases for a new tapered column clad in hardie shake represent the look of the arts and crafts along this west facing elevation, along with a low sloped hipped roof with long overhangs detailed with dentil work. Hardie shake applied to the second floor pulls from the detail of the porch columns and a new horizontal roof connector reconciles the new porch, the existing garage roof and the second floor addition.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This two-story 2130 s.f. colonial-style red brick house was built in the 1930s and is located in a suburb of Charleston near Folly Beach. The additional 1500 s.f. of heated space and 780 s.f. of porches and deck for the house follows a contemporary Arts and Crafts design. The exterior is clad with limestone and brick exterior wainscot. Cedar shakes are used for both exterior siding and as roofing material. The addition contains master bedroom suite and a family room built over an existing blue stone deck. The connector between the new bedroom and family room makes extensive use of glass. <image:title>Projects - Master bathroom at Vanity</image:title>
<image:caption>The Hart Renovation is a continuation of a larger previous project. This renovation consisted of the master bathroom, master closet and some interior finish work to the guest bathroom and guest bedroom of this existing townhouse. The existing master bathroom was completely demolished to make way for a new and more contemporary bathroom. The existing tub and shower were completely removed and replaced with a walk in shower with ceramic tile floor and walls along with a full wall of Egyptian glass tile with built-in shower shelves carved into the wall and covered in tile to provide a sparkle and reflective quality at the bathroom’s end. Frameless glass encloses the shower and makes the bathroom feel as if it continues into the shower area. The goal of this renovation was to make this small bathroom feel larger and more reflective throughout. White ceramic tile covers the floor and also climbs up the wall to become a wainscoat ending wood trim. New stained maple, shaker style cabinets were installed with full storage columns and cabinets either side of the make up area with white fantasy quartz countertops. Clean lines, a play on light and dark materials and transparency help to make this bathroom a more open contemporary space. The guest bathroom and guest bedroom went through an interior overhaul of color, new finishes and bright fabrics to become more reinvigorated and elegant spaces.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The existing restaurant space needed accompany provisions for a sushi bar, cocktail bar, hibachi dining room, sushi-dining area with tatami seating and a private dining room. The interior design was influenced by nature with a neutral color palette of taupe, beige, chocolate brown, warm orange and pear green. A translucent glass screen separates the entry way and the cocktail bar with lighting to reveal the etched glass plant design. Japanese bamboo planters were used as partitions between the sushi bar and dining areas. Bamboo flooring was placed throughout the dining and cocktail areas. Due to its high strength, long-range durable properties a seamless, maximum performance broadcast flooring system was used in the hibachi dining room with stainless steel and granite furnishings. <image:title>Projects - Hall Residence Addition, Cary, NC</image:title>
<image:caption>The Hall Residence is a ranch style home with a split level in which the clients desired a renovation to their existing kitchen and living spaces, a complete renovation to their existing rear deck as well as a new sunroom addition to connect to their living areas. The addition for this project was designed as a more contemporary approach to the traditional style of the house. Low sloping shed roofs of differing angles connect to the existing house roof line allowing for a new clerestory and sloping vaulted ceilings within the addition and also opening the kitchen space vertically to allow more natural light to enter. The low sloping metal roofs provide a simple bending approach with these differing angles to give each portion of the addition its own prominence and importance, while working together as a composition framing an exterior area along the new deck. The rear deck connects the sunroom to the side entry mudroom and sitting area and provides direct access from the kitchen to a planter for herbs located just under the operating casement windows which also catches natural prevailing winds to cool the interior spaces.</image:caption>
